four-half-stars

Three friends, two love stories, one convention: this fun, feminist love letter to geek culture is all about fandom, friendship, and finding the courage to be yourself.
Charlie likes to stand out. She’s a vlogger and actress promoting her first movie at SupaCon, and this is her chance to show fans she’s over her public breakup with co-star Reese Ryan. When internet-famous cool-girl actress Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie’s long-time crush on her isn’t as one-sided as she thought.
Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there’s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with her best guy friend Jamie—no matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about a fan contest for her favorite fandom, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe.
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde, chosen by readers like you for Macmillan's young adult imprint Swoon Reads, is an empowering novel for anyone who has ever felt that fandom is family.

Book Review

Have you ever read a book where without realizing it, you start smiling? You don’t even notice it at first- you’re just reacting to the words in the page. You eagerly devour the words on the page and without realizing it- you realize that you’re skimming and going to the next page because you’re so eager. You just can’t stop reading and smiling and AHHHHH.

This book was absolutely incredible. There were three main characters and two love stories- one of which featured LGBT characters! To my knowledge, the representation was very good and I was definitely shipping both couples. I also have a new book boyfriend- Jamie!

Also, I NEED to take a minute to talk about Taylor and her social anxiety and how it was portrayed in this book. I must admit that whenever characters have social anxiety, I’m always worried if the representation will be good or not. Let me tell you- in my opinion, it was REALLY good. I definitely empathized with her and I knew exactly what she was feeling/going through because I’ve had similar moments. Panic attacks were also discussed and shown in this book and were portrayed accurately.

Overall I really really enjoyed this book and give it 4.5/5 stars.

Book Review: All the Stars and..

Book Review Recently I’ve enjoyed going into books without reading their summary. The way I often choose books is a bit unique.I have a large TBR pile in my room that I previously vetted to make sure I was interested in the book, but I rarely remember the synopsis of every book in that pile. Sometimes my method works out really well and I find the book more intriguing because […]

Book Review: Little Fires Ever..

Book Review How do you even begin to describe this book? There are so many layers woven into this novel that there is just no way to authentically describe it. What I can say is that this book left me speechless and breathless. When reading, I felt like I had to look up and take a gulp of air every now and then because I was so deeply immersed in […]

Book Review: Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Hello everyone! It’s time for a book review! 😀 Before I started HEARTLESS, I was very conflicted for multiple reasons. First, there was SO MUCH HYPE surrounding the book simply because Marissa Meyer was the author. Second, this hype caused a LEGITIMATE stampede during BEA 2016. Third, the most important reason I was conflicted, was…I don’t like Alice in Wonderland. I never liked the story nor the movie. I’ve tried […]

Double Mini Reviews~ Two 3 Star Books That Were Only Okay :/

MINI REVIEW RUINED was one of the books that I was really hoping would appear at ALAMW16. After all, it sounded great, and I was looking forward to reading it. So, when I saw that they were handing out copies, I was very happy. Because I loved the synopsis of RUINED, I decided to bring it with me on vacation. After all, what could be better than reading a great […]

Double Mini Reviews- Double the Fun! Check out ASIC and GATU!

MINI REVIEW I am going to start by admitting that I’ve only seen one episode of Sherlock. While I did find Sherlock to be a fascinating character, I never watched more, and so I didn’t know what to expect from ASIC. I am thrilled to say that I loved it- for the same reason that I enjoyed the one episode of Sherlock. Charlotte Holmes. The great great great (etc) granddaughter […]

Blog Tour: The Ones by Daniel Sweren-Becker + Character Profile + Giveaway!

ARC REVIEW When I originally saw The Ones on the Mac request list, it intrigued me. I hadn’t heard of it prior to that moment, so I was excited to find out more, and was even more excited when it arrived in my mailbox. I started reading it, and was immediately shocked. It opens with a torture scene, which is definitely not what I was expecting. I don’t generally read […]
