TGIF #4: Changing How I Read

Posted December 12, 2014 by Nori in TGIF / 3 Comments

TGIF everyone!

I haven’t done a TGIF post in a while, so I decided that it was time for a new one. If you don’t know, TGIF posts are where I blabber about random things happening in my life. They can also be personal reflection posts.

As most of you know by now, I have loved reading from a very young age. With that being said, I would often read a book, enjoy it, put it down, and then start another book. I rarely ever took a moment to stop, think about the characters, and analyze the story. Sure, I was able to read a TON of books, (300-400 per year) but I really wasn’t reading them. Thinking back, it seems as though I was just skimming the surface.

Now that I’m a beta reader and book blogger, whenever I read, I try to connect with the characters, dive deep into the story, and read more than what is on the surface. I have found that while reading was pleasurable before, reading is ten- no, one hundred times better now! I don’t even know how to properly describe the feeling that I get whenever I am able to connect with characters in the books. All that I can say is that it is exhilarating, and I wouldn’t trade that feeling for anything.

While reading was a hobby before, it seems to be my life now. And by reading taking over my life, I really mean books and authors and bloggers and everyone else in the book community! I know that I haven’t met most of you in person, but I feel as though I’ve known you all forever.

So what I really want to do is say thank you. Thank you to everyone reading this. Thank you to everyone who has been warm and welcoming as I entered this amazing community. I am extremely grateful to all of you.

Now, one thing that I do want, is to get to know all of you better! Please leave a comment below telling me about your experience with the book community. I would love to hear about everyone else’s experiences with reading.

Speaking of reading, I’m actually hosting a 2015 reading challenge where you can win PRIZES for participating! I would LOVE for you all to join. Check it out HERE.

Goodbye for now!

Whatever Life Throws at You by Julie Cross Publisher: Entangled Teen Published on: October 7th, 2014 Pages: 320 Amazon | Goodreads Please note: I received an ARC for this book from the publisher, Entangled Teen. This review reflects my honest opinion. Whatever Life Throws at You was different than any other book that I’ve read. The easiest way that I can describe the plot is that it’s a twist on […]

Book Review: Merman’s Kiss by Dee J. Stone

Merman’s Kiss by Dee J. Stone Publisher: Self-Published Published on: January 26th, 2014 Pages: 237 Amazon | Goodreads One thing about me is that I’m a sucker for mermaid related things, whether they be books, tv shows, you name it. That’s why I was very excited to read this book, seeing as it was a mermaid story, but with a twist. Instead of the main character being a mermaid, she’s […]

TGIF #2: CBCBR Recap!

TGIF #2: CBCBR Recap!

For those of you who don’t know, this past Saturday I had the chance to go to the Chapter by Chapter Book Rave (CBCBR). This was my first ever book signing event and I was extremely excited yet nervous to go. After all, what if I embarrassed myself in front of the authors? What if it ended up being boring? What if I didn’t enjoy myself? These were all questions […]

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch Publisher: Balzer + Bray Published on: October 14th, 2014 Pages: 432 Amazon | Goodreads Have you ever heard how amazing a book is and then become sorely disappointed? While I was reading the beginning of Snow Like Ashes, I was afraid that was going to happen to me. After all, all of my fellow book bloggers on Twitter seemed to love it. But for […]

Book Review: Dangerous Creatur..

Please Note: Make sure to read the Beautiful Creatures series before this novel. In the Beautiful Creatures series, the entire series revolved around Lena and Ethan. But there was one character who didn’t seem to get the spotlight she deserved. Luckily for her (and me), the authors decided to correct this mistake and create a new series that featured this character. Meet Ridley Duchannes, Lena’s dark Siren cousin. She’s spunky, […]

TGIF #1: Future Plans

TGIF everyone! I don’t know about any of you, but this week has been crazy for me. Last week I unfortunately caught a nasty bug, which has kept me home for over a week. This is definitely not how I imagined my summer would end. But since I have been sick and stuck in bed, I decided to do some research about book blogging, reviewing, and all the awesome stuff in […]
