Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.

Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot.

With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Book Review

Do you like fandoms? Do you like cosplaying? Do you like the fairytale Cinderella? If so then you’ll definitely love GEEKERELLA. This book was a perfect mixture of all of the previously mentioned things and it was something that was quite comical and also super sweet.. Of course the characters all had their ups and the downs but just shows what true love and true human spirit is all about. If you like All the Feels by Danika Stone, you’ll definitely want to check this one out.

I love this book because there were so many aspects to it. It truly was the story of Cinderella but in a modern time where Cinderella was named Elle and she was…well she was a geek. But hey aren’t all the best people geeks? Not according to her stepmother and her two evil stepsisters. Elle didn’t have a great life. Her mom died when she was very young and her dad died after he remarried. That left her with her only family being her evil stepsisters and her stepmother who all treated her like trash. She never had any friends growing up either. The only thing she had was a blog. She ended up working for a vegan pumpkin truck food truck called the Magic Pumpkin. I thought that transforming the pumpkin into a food truck to make it modern was a really unique twist.

But hey let’s get to the story and why I actually liked it. One day Elle received a text from someone and she doesn’t think much of it. It was someone who is trying to get in contact with the organizers of one of her favorite conventions ever that revolves around Starfield. Little does Elle know that that one text will spark an entirely new world for her. One text turns into another which turns into another and soon enough this mysterious person is the highlight of her day. She loves texting him because he seems like a geek just like her.

Because of Elle’s family situation, she had no self-confidence whatsoever. However, through texting the mysterious boy and her eventual friendship with Sage, she learns to open up to people. She learns that it’s okay to not be alone– sometimes, it’s amazing.

Overall I thought it was a very cute read and I liked that it truly was a fandom version spin off of Cinderella. It was a bit cliche but most spinoffs are. Overall, it was really cute and I give it 3.5 out of five stars.
