Miles Away from You Aesthetics
Long before I was a writer, I was an artsy kid. I’ve always loved painting, sketching, collaging, photography, and crafting. Naturally, when I began my first novel, I continued to rely on tools and techniques that inspired the visual arts portion of my brain. Finding Pinterest was a game-changer for me. And sometimes a distraction. I can spend hours looking for the right setting photo or model who best represents my main character. My debut, Miles Away from You, is a story about a boy taking a solo trip to Iceland while grieving the loss of his first love. During the writing process, I amassed quite a collection of inspiration photos and here are a few of my favorite.
I love the cover of Miles so much. After the reveal, several of my friends told me I needed a “Miles jacket” so I found a similar one on Amazon. I wasn’t sure how to style it, so I turned to my friend Jilly Dreadful who made this epic Polyvore set for me.
Writing is my main creative hobby these days, but I do still like to draw my characters when I have time. This is a watercolor I painted of Miles. It’s loosely based after the style of my latest artist fave, Raphael Vicenzi aka My Dead Pony.
And I’ll leave you with some photos that I took on my own trip to Iceland back in 2014 paired with a few of my favorite quotes from the book.
