Music brought Autumn, Shay, and Logan together. Death wants to tear them apart.
Autumn always knew exactly who she was—a talented artist and a loyal friend. Shay was defined by two things: her bond with her twin sister, Sasha, and her love of music. And Logan always turned to writing love songs when his love life was a little less than perfect.
But when tragedy strikes each of them, somehow music is no longer enough. Now Logan can’t stop watching vlogs of his dead ex-boyfriend. Shay is a music blogger struggling to keep it together. And Autumn sends messages that she knows can never be answered.
Each of them wonders: How different would my life be if this hadn’t happened? And now that it has . . . what’s next?
This is my first novel aesthetic! But I think these images encapsulate THE BEAUTY THAT REMAINS really well. My debut is ultimately a story about how to move on after an unexpected tragedy, so I wanted to pick images that matched the dark, but hopeful mood.
It follows three different kids who recently lost someone close to them, and because the story is told in alternating chapters from each of their perspectives, I knew my aesthetic wouldn’t be complete without images of them.
Shay is shown in the upper left-hand corner. She lost her twin sister to cancer and is having a really hard time, but is trying her hardest to convince everyone around her that she is perfectly fine. Logan, pictured on the right, has just found out that his ex-boyfriend (who is also his first love) has died under mysterious circumstances. And Autumn, in the center, lost her best friend in a car accident. Their lives intersect because of a band and with the help of their friends, families, and each other, they begin to accept what has happened and start figuring out tiny ways to move forward.
Music plays a big role in BEAUTY. Logan is a singer/song writer, and Shay is a music fanatic who runs a music-themed blog. Autumn’s love interest is in the band that ultimately unites the three characters and there are lots of scenes at concerts because I’m a huge fan of live music.
There are also a few different epic romances happening, which is why I had to include the sketch of mouths coming together in a kiss. And the quotes I love because they’re hopeful while still acknowledging how impossible and overwhelming life can feel sometimes.
I hope you like it, and that you’ll love THE BEAUTY THAT REMAINS. <3
