10 SAT Words Both Teens and Adults Should Know

Allegedly, is the story of Mary B. Addison, a girl convicted of murder seeking the truth while surviving life in a group home. She battles her past and present to fight for her future. And she must do ALL of this….while studying for the SAT’s.

Sounds just like high school, right?

Just for a moment, imagine trying to tackle the SAT’s with everything the main character 16-year-old Mary had live through. Pregnancy, a secret boyfriend, and a narcissistic mother, in a house full of girls with their own troubled past?

When I was sixteen, I worried about TV shows, getting my drivers license, and memorizing as many vocabulary words as possibly since I sucked at math!

Check out some of my favorite SAT words. One of which is featured in Allegedly!  See how many you recognize.

Impervious (adj.) impenetrable, incapable of being affected

Whet (verb) sharpen the blade of (a tool or weapon)

Taciturn (adj.) quiet, reserved, saying little

Diaphanous (adj.) light, airy, transparent

Munificence (n.) generosity in giving

Parsimony (n.) frugality, stinginess

Conflagration (n.) great fire

Surreptitiously (adj.) secretly, stealthily

I’m not sure if I was strong enough to handle all of her issues as a teen–I want to read this to get to know this character. I love unreliable narrators and don’t get enough books with them. Some of these words would have stumped me on the SAT.

    dang this book sounds good!!!
(I’m starting to think I should just say what Danielle said as she seems to post what I am thinking even before I read what she posted! LOL!)
I knew a couple of those words but I swear, the older I get, the small my vocabulary seems to be. (though I will say I am extremely grateful to live in a time that when ever I hear a word I don’t know, just takes a couple seconds to google it!)
