I’m so happy to have Ava Jae on my blog today as part of the Sunday Street Team 🙂
Can you tell us about yourself?
Sure! I’m a twenty-something, chronically ill, Latina college student (graduating in April!) with a frighteningly large owned TBR pile. I write books about young people whose lives I basically set on fire then leave them to clean up the mess. 🙂
Are there any people that influenced your writing style and/or started your desire to write?
When I first started writing, I read a ton of Ted Dekker books—like, that was pretty much all I read with only a couple exceptions. So his work definitely influenced my writing style, especially in it’s early stages, and he was a major inspiration for me. Then I got more into YA and was really inspired by authors like Tahereh Mafi (her voice!) and Beth Revis (her journey to publication! and awesome sci-fi!) and reading their books and hearing their stories really helped me grow as a writer and keep going, even when publication seemed like an impossible dream.
Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what type of music?
I do! What I listen to varies manuscript to manuscript—I usually stick to one or two bands or album per book—but usually it’s something rock oriented, with the occasional pop or indie stuff thrown in. For Beyond the Red I endlessly listened to Imagine Dragons’s Night Visions album and 30 Seconds to Mars’s Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams album.
On days when you are not reading or writing, what are you doing?
Playing Assassin’s Creed, mostly likely. Or watching Supernatural, or Vikings, or Sense8, or some action-y movie.
Are you currently working on a book? If so, can you give us any juicy details? 🙂
Well I just recently finished revising a YA Fantasy project that I hope I’ll be able to someday share with everyone, so I’m currently between projects. But I hope to be starting on something new soon!
RAPID FIRE QUESTIONS
Ice Cream or Pie?
Roses or Daisies?
Roses! I’ve never been much of a Daisy fan, TBH.
Silver or Gold?
Silver! I love silver.
Computer or Phone?
If I could only have one? Phone. But in reality *clings to both.*
Ebook or Physical book?
Physical book—especially hardcover. Though I love me some e-books, too. 🙂
