This week’s topic is Top Ten Tuesday #72: Music and Books! I decided to pick ten songs that I would LOVE to see as a book. Can’t you just imagine reading a book that was inspired by these songs? I certainly can!

1. Here by Alessia Cara
Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this
An antisocial pessimist, but usually I don’t mess with this
And I know you mean only the best and your
Intentions aren’t to bother me, but honestly I’d rather be
Somewhere with my people, we can kick it and just listen to
Some music with a message, like we usually do
And we’ll discuss our big dreams, how we plan, to take over the planet

2. Alive by Sia
I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go
Where the wind don’t change
And nothing in the ground can ever grow
No hope, just lies
And you’re taught to cry in your pillow
But I survived

I’m still breathing
I’m alive

3. Stole the Show (feat. Parson James) by Kygo
No heroes, villains, one to blame
While wilted roses fill the stage
And the thrill, the thrill is gone
Our debut was a masterpiece
Our lines we read so perfectly
But the show, it can’t go on

4. Ex’s and Oh’s by Elle King
My Ex’s & Oh’s
They haunt me
Like ghosts, they want me
To make them all
They won’t let go
Ex’s & Oh’s

5. Emperor’s New Clothes by Panic! At the Disco

Oh yeah
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
I’m taking back back, taking back back the crown
I’m all dressed up and naked
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh yeah
The crown…
So close I can taste it
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh yeah

6. My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) by Fall Out Boy
Be careful making wishes in the dark
Can’t be sure when they’ve hit their mark
And besides in the meantime I’m just dreaming of tearing you apart
I’m in the details with the devil
So now the world can never get me on my level
I just got to get you out of the cage

7. Make it Up by Sam Tsui
I’ve got a little confession
I don’t know what I’m doing
But if you want, you can play along
Maybe I’ll wake
To find that I went and blew it
But ’til I do, I’ll keep going strong

8. My Anthem by Christina Grimmie
Oooo, I wanna live for the moments.
That are gone before we’re thinkin’ about them.
I’m singin’ this cause we’d be nothin’ without them,
and this is my anthem, yeah.

Oooo, I wanna live for the feelings.
That can live in this life for meaning.
I’m singin’ this cause we’d be nothin’ with them,
and this is my anthem, yeah.

9. Wake Me Up by Avicii
Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where it starts
They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by me

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost

10. Battlefield by Jordin Sparks
One word turns into a war
Why is it the smallest things that tear us down
My world’s nothing when you’re gone
I’m out here without a shield, can’t go back, now

Have you listened to any of these songs? Do you think any of them would make a great book? Are there any books that remind you of these songs? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I feel totally out of it. I have no idea what any of these songs are, but I’ll definitely check them out! Thanks for the recs. I actually love this top ten topic. There are so many amazing songs out there that would be a fantastic inspiration for a book. I loved this post, even thought I didn’t know the songs…lol. 😉

  2. TT

I saw the first two songs you had chosen, and new this was going to be a stunner of a compilation – I wasn’t wrong!!
Here, and Alive are two of my most played songs out and about at the moment… I’d love to see how Here would be transformed into a novel-format: is anyone else thinking awkward teenage protagonist meets outgoing partner? I am.

  3. YES SAM TSUI omg I would love to read that song in a book form…I can imagine the plot already – really pretty girl has no idea what shes doing with her life, and stumbles into a nerdy boy, plays around with him and his heart a bit, then realises she’s hurt him a lot? IDK IM AN ANGSTY PERSON HAHA my plot just deviated so far from the mood of the song xD
    Still…GREAT LIST, Nori! 😀

    • ASDFOA;HGRIUAHRG YOU KNOW SAM TSUI YESSSSSSS 😀 I was waiting for someone to recognize him! I LOVE LOVE LOVE his voice! And you should totally write that book!!!

  4. Sarah Cone

I’m so glad you posted the lyrics because I’m only familiar with one of the songs! After reading the words, I totally agree that these songs could be made into awesome books. I’m also impressed by the topic itself, it’s very interesting and something that never would’ve even crossed my mind. 🙂 Imo, I think Bohemian Rhapsody could be EPIC as a book. Or Enter Sandman OR I am the Walrus OR basically ANYthing by Katy Perry. 🙂

  5. Yay! I picked a couple Alessia Cara for my post too! I didn’t pick any Sia songs, which is weird and unlike me. I love Ex’s and Oh’s. Emperor’s New Clothes is also good. Omg, omg, I could’ve added like ten of their songs to my post! Gah, darn it. Oh well.

Fall Out Boy made my list too! A few songs, they’re so good. I need to listen to the rest of the songs you listed! Ik now Christina Grimmie but I haven’t listened to her in a while. Battlefield would make a good story too.
