novel newcomers

Wooohoooo! It’s finally the moment I know you’ve all been waiting for…it’s the first day ever for the Novel Newcomers feature that Sophi and I are co-hosting! In case you’ve forgotten, you can check out all of the details HERE.

But, just to give you a super quick recap, Sophi and I will be featuring bloggers who started blogging in 2015 on Mondays on both of our blogs for…ALL OF 2016!!! Yes, you read that right. This is a year long feature, and Sophi & I are SUPER excited for it!

So…Without further ado…Let’s get this party started!!!

(P.S. I couldn’t help but respond to a couple of the things these three lovely ladies said, so my comments are in PURPLE!)

Let’s start by meeting the three AWESOME bloggers featured in today’s post!

Chelsea is the blogger at Sparkle Scribble! She started blogging in June 2015. You can find her on Goodreads or on Twitter!

Gabi is the blogger at Lets Gab About Books! She started blogging in August 2015. You can find her on GoodreadsInstagram, Twitter, and Tumblr.

Lynette is the blogger at Charmingly Simple! She also started blogging in June 2015. You can find her on Goodreads or on Twitter!

Outside of blogging and reading, what other interests do you have?
Chelsea: *crickets* I never know how to answer this (valid) question! I’m not really a hobby person, although I guess I consider my blog to be my main hobby these days. Beyond reading, I really like watching and talking about tv (I’ve seen SO many shows) and beauty videos on YouTube. I just finished knitting a scarf, does that count? Yesss this totally counts and on an unrelated note…I’m collecting scarves knitted by bookish people 😉 And now I sound like someone who never leaves the house. Which I totally do! You know, to go to work…
Lynette: I love coloring. I also love teaching (that’s why I’m in school to become an elementary school teacher!)
Gabi: At the moment my favorite thing is Hamilton *(I probably shouldn’t mention that I still haven’t listened to Hamilton, right?), and musicals in general (not that I have any talent in the area, I just love them haha). I also adore baking, it’s probably my favorite way to de-stress after a long week. I work in residential life, and love organizing and planning events and programs! I’m currently a student at UW, studying History and Education. I want to be a librarian, I currently work at the library on campus and love it!

What is your most unusual accomplishment?
Chelsea: That is such an interesting question! I don’t know if this is the most unusual accomplishment, but my most recent accomplishment was finding a place to store my Big Pile of Nail Polish (I’m a total nail polish addict).
Lynette: Unusual, I think that the majority of the people who meet me wouldn’t believe that I accomplished being in the military and survived Basic Training.
Gabi: Oh man, I have no idea. Umm, maybe just the sheer number of programs I have planned and executed in the past two years? It’s definitely over 100. I work as an Resident Adviser this year, and was a Residence Education Programmer last year, and am on Programming Board for all of campus this year too, so I guess it’s probably that. I don’t do a lot of exciting, unusual things!

What is your favorite food?
Chelsea: Asking me to choose a favorite food is like asking me to choose a favorite book. I CAN’T DO IT and I might cry if you make me. Fair enough- I can understand this dilemma! I have the sweet tooth of Buddy the Elf so anything sweet would do nicely.
Lynette: I have WAY too many to pick which one is my favorite. But, I have to say anything potato fits into this category. OMG YES I knew I liked you for a reason 😉
Gabi: My favorite food right now is probably Thai food; we have amazing places in Seattle and it’s something that is new to me since coming to college. I’m kind of obsessed.

What are some books publishing this year that you can’t wait to read?
Chelsea: Imprudence by Gail Carriger, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman, The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh, and Shiny Broken Pieces by Sona Charaipotra & Dhonielle Clayton.
Lynette: Rebel of the Sands, The Crown’s Game, Heartless, and Crooked Kingdom.
Gabi: I mean, there are SO many. The first books that come to mind are A Court of Mist and Fury, TOG #5, The Crown, Heartless, Gemina, etc. Lots of exciting things happening in some of my favorite series. Morgan Matson’s The Unexpected Everything is probably my most anticipated standalone, because come on, it’s MM. She’s the best. I can attest that TUE is amazing <3

What is your spirit animal? (mine is obviously a poodle 😉 )
Chelsea: Spirit animal: Corgis. Dogs FTW Also, spirit persona: Mindy Lahiri from The Mindy Project.
Lynette: Fox.
Gabi: Is it too typical to say a cat? Particularly those scrunchy faced Persian ones? Let me explain- They’re fluffy, cute, lovable, but particular about who they want affection from. There’s also the aspect of sassy-ness that cats possess, while the majority of time they’re cuddly, which is definitely characteristic of me.

Now…I also asked them some rapid fire questions!

CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA?
Chelsea: Chocolate
Lynette: Chocolate
Gabi: Vanilla, hands down, no question. Not a chocolate person!

SUMMER OR WINTER?
Chelsea: Winter
Lynette: Summer
Gabi: Winter! I left sunny California for rainy, beautiful, perfect Seattle because colder weather has my heart.

SWEET OR SOUR OR SPICY?
Chelsea: Sweet
Lynette: Sour
Gabi: Sweet! I’ve worked/grew up with Jelly Belly Candy Co (mom works there, I worked there), and worked as a candy girl in a local candy boutique, so it’s safe to say I have a huge sweet tooth!

PEANUT BUTTER OR JELLY?
Chelsea: Peanut Butter
Lynette: Peanut Butter
Gabi: Jelly. Again, the giant sweet tooth, and jelly falls into the “sweet” category!

RED PANDAS OR PANDAS?
Chelsea: Pandas. Especially the one in the video rolling around in the snow. That specific panda. YES I loved that panda also!
Lynette: Pandas
Gabi: This question was too overwhelming for Gabi and so she skipped it 😛

ICYMI: The panda video is below:

And that’s a wrap on the first ever Novel Newcomers post! What did you think? I definitely learned some new things about Chelsea, Gabi, and Lynette. Make sure to check out their blogs and give them a follow! Also- stay tuned! Next week, Sophi will be featuring 3 bloggers on her blog!
