Basics of Book Blogging: Day Ten- The Book Community!

Posted September 15, 2015 by Nori in Basics of Book Blogging / 7 Comments

It’s time for DAY TEN of the Basics of Book Blogging feature!!! Who’s excited? I AM! 😀

As I mentioned in the introduction post, this feature is going to be filled with mostly Q&A style questions, in addition to some links that you might find helpful. 🙂

THE BOOK COMMUNITY

Where do I make bookish friends online? How can I make more friends in the bookish community?

You can make bookish friends online EVERYWHERE, and I highly suggest that you do so. If any of you follow me on Twitter, you know that I’m pretty social there, and I like talking to people. What may surprise you is that in real life, I’m very shy. I don’t like approaching people and introducing myself. Yet, on Twitter? Well, let’s just say that I’ve been nicknamed the “head cheerleader of blogging” and “head of the book community welcome squad.”

So…onto making friends. Well, if you don’t have one already, create a Twitter for your book blog. Believe me when I say that you’re not going to want to use your personal one, because you’re going to be flooding it with bookish related tweets. Once you have a Twitter, start following some bloggers that you know, along with some authors! Then, casually read through your feed until you see a tweet that sparks your interest, and start chatting away!

Don’t be afraid to jump into a conversation about books- we are all very friendly, and love meeting new people! Also, if you ever want suggestions on who specifically to follow…well, let’s just say someone asked me that recently and it took me 12 tweets to list all of the book bloggers she should follow. 😉 There are a lot of awesome people out there, so jump in and say HI!

After thinking about how many people tend to ask for people to follow, I realized that it might be easier to just put together a Twitter list filled with some awesome bookish people to follow on Twitter, and make the list public so that I can recommend people simply look at the list rather than flooding them with tweets. So, without further ado, I give to you…the AWESOME PEOPLE 2 FOLLOW TWITTER LIST!!! Now, please don’t get me wrong. There are definitely more awesome people to follow on Twitter, but I was trying to limit myself…and I ended up at 110 accounts…which I figured was probably enough…so please don’t be offended if you’re not on the list! I’M SORRY! But seriously, if you’re not following everyone on the list…DO IT! NOW! After all, they are awesome. 😉

Who wants to be tagged for questionnaires/blog awards?

Ha! Ha! It’s funny that you asked…I have a Twitter list for this as well (click HERE)! Mwahahahahaha. (This really shouldn’t surprise you by now- I love lists). Also, if you would like to be added to this list, let me know and I’ll add you! I’m hoping that this will be a good resource for everyone, not just me. 🙂

Whenever I want to approach a big blogger or author, I always feel nervous and think that I’m annoying them. What should I do?

Remember this- there is one thing that bonds the ENTIRE book community together, and that is our love for reading. So, don’t be afraid to say hi! Here is one icebreaker that is SURE to spark a conversation.

“Hi! I’m Nori. I’m reading ____INSERT BOOK TITLE HERE____. It’s really good so far. What are you currently reading?”
