What made you decide to go into writing?
I grew up in Sydney, Australia, and when I was eight I won a national writing contest in The Australian Newspaper (still the most prestigious newspaper in Australia). The headline read “Australia’s Next Best Writers” and I won twenty-five dollars! I was hooked.
When you first started writing ROME IN LOVE, did you focus on the Amelia as an actress, or Audrey Hepburn as a role model? (Basically, which idea popped into your head first)
I focused on Audrey Hepburn first. I fell in love with her voice and her clothes and her incredible charm and I wanted to hear her voice when I wrote.
What was the biggest difference when writing ROME IN LOVE compared to your other novels?
The biggest difference is ROME IN LOVE features a real character. I did a lot of research on Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck and the making of Roman Holiday. I learned some fascinating things and incorporated them into the story, it was great fun!
What’s your favorite food? (curious minds want to know 😉 )
Anyone who knows me, knows it is frozen yogurt. I live in Southern California so frozen yogurt is a must. A second favorite is any kind of coffee, so I would do very well in Rome.
Do you think that the cover matches the book well? Why/why not?
I adore the cover, especially the heart in the cappuccino! I think the cover suits the book wonderfully. It has a dreamy, elegant quality, and makes me want to sit at an outdoor cafe in Rome.
