Release Date: 06/16/2015
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Received From: Edelweiss
Synopsis:

Isa, Xavi, Peter, and Finn know that a job at the high-end Waterside Cafe isn’t just about waiting tables. It’s about the gossip, the hook-ups, the after-hours parties and, most of all, it’s about Tips.

Tips–the high-stakes game based on dares. Whoever completes the most dares wins the collected money. A sum that could change a wasted summer into a Summer to Remember.

Isa is the new girl with an embarrassing secret, and as long as she stays on top of her game, she sees no reason why anyone could ever find out.

Xavi will do anything for the money…absolutely anything.

Peter, Xavi’s stepbrother, has been in love with her for years, and he thinks the game is the perfect time to confess his feelings.

Finn is in the game just for the thrill. He has enough tips coming in to keep him happy…even if those tips come with some conditions.

From seduction to stealing to threats, the dares are a complete free-for-all, and only the best can win.

The sophisticated Waterside Cafe is anything but classy behind the scenes…and things are about to get dirty.

I love books with crazy dares and secret societies. I really do! And from the moment I heard about After Hours, I was really intrigued and set my hopes high. Unfortunately, my hopes were too high, and I was sorely disappointed. For some reason, this book just didn’t work for me. I didn’t love the characters, the plot, or the pacing. It was just an ehhh book- nothing more, nothing less.

First of all, let me give you a brief warning about the romance- it was twisted and many lines were crossed. I am not going to tell you why or how, (due to spoilers), but believe me when I say that there were more than a couple of moments that made me stare in shock, and not for good reasons. Also, not only was the romance bizarre, it wasn’t enjoyable! I didn’t find myself shipping any of the characters- nor did I enjoy reading about any of the characters. I personally found them to all be annoying, obnoxious, or frustrating.

Also, After Hours was an extremely quick read. I’m not sure whether I should classify this as a good or bad thing, but it felt like every time I blinked, I was 20% further than I was the previous time. I was shocked that I finished it so quickly, but then again, I was happy because I didn’t want to waste any more of my precious reading time on the book.

Overall, this book was just meh, and I can’t decide if it’s worth 2.5 or 3 stars, so I guess that I’ll just round up to 3.
