The Devil You Know was one of my most anticipated 2015 releases. It sounded amazing, causing me to have very high expectations. Upon starting this book, I was immediately hooked by the way that Trish Doller was able to tell the story of Arcadia, the main character. She was very relatable And as I continued reading, I really enjoyed how all of the words flowed together. I am not sure exactly how long it took me to read The Devil You Know, but I do know that it was very quick- probably under 1.5 hours. This is a testament to how well the book was written.
The weird part about this book was that while I loved the story as a whole, there were many parts that bugged me. If I hadn’t loved the writing style, I probably wouldn’t have liked this book. There were multiple scenes with insta-attraction/insta-lust, which is not my favorite. Maybe it’s just me, but I find it more enjoyable when the romances build throughout the story. In addition to the insta-attraction, there was a love triangle, and both of the boys were picked due to the insta-attraction, which annoyed me too.
I would also like to mention that The Devil You Know is a thriller, which is a different type of book than I normally read. Now that I’m thinking about it…I’m not sure when the last time was that I read a thriller. I must admit- this book did sell me on the thriller genre, and I’m looking forward to reading more books like this! There were many twists and turns which were very enjoyable to read.
Overall, while I didn’t love the romance, I really enjoyed the rest of the book, and so I give it 4/5stars.
