If you’re looking for a sweet, cute contemporary novel filled with a little bit of friendship, magic, and fun revenge, this is the book for you! I was honestly surprised by just how cute Love Fortunes and Other Disasters was. After reading the synopsis, I was intrigued, but I wasn’t completely hooked. So, you might be wondering how/why I decided to read it. To answer your question, I will go backwards in time to when Danielle (Love at First Page) had a Twitter giveaway and I was one of the winners! I saw that this was one of the ARCs to pick and I decided to give it a try. I am very glad that I decided to read it, and am thankful to Danielle for the amazing giveaway.
From the very beginning, I was hooked on Love Fortunes and Other Disasters. First of all, I loved all of the characters. I was very impressed by how relatable they all were, especially because all of them had flaws and got into situations where the best response was a shrug and…”oops?” Well, maybe those exact words weren’t said, but there were a couple of awkward moments where they did something reckless or something that wasn’t exactly smart. Also, their names were gorgeous and extremely unique. Fallon, Anais, Nico, Camille, I loved them all!
Now, with the title being Love Fortunes and Other Disasters, I’m sure that you are wondering about the romance in this book. Yes, there was some romance, but it wasn’t the typical romance. Also, there was a love triangle, and it did include a girl and two boys, but…the love triangle wasn’t typical. It’s a different pairing- a pairing that is uncommon to see, but I hope to see more in the future. It was nice to see a YA book where this type of triangle was included. I don’t want to say any more than that, for fear of spoilers, but hopefully you can read between the lines. 😉
Overall I really enjoyed this book and give it 4.5/5 stars! I highly recommend this one.
