Tear You Apart was about Vivian, a girl who lived in a world where fairy tales are real. Actually, not only were fairy tales real, but fairytale curses were real as well. If you couldn’t tell by the book cover (which is beautiful), Vivian was cursed with the Snow White curse. Yes, the Snow White curse meaning that she had an evil stepmother plus a Huntsman who was supposed to kill her. To make matters worse, her Huntsman was actually her best friend. Well, I guess most people would call him her boyfriend, but it’s pretty difficult to have a relationship with the guy who is cursed to kill you.

While I loved the idea of this story, overall Tear You Apart seemed to fall flat. I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought. I really didn’t like nor did I feel a connection towards any of the main characters. Vivian annoyed me, Jaspar was just strange, I wanted to roll my eyes every time that Regina spoke, and I never felt that I could trust Henley and his true motives. If you haven’t realized this by now, when I don’t like the characters, it is very difficult for me to enjoy the book.

Something else that bothered me about this book was the fact that none of the characters ever caught a break. It seemed like everyone was always fighting, getting killed, or trying to avoid getting killed. While it made for a suspenseful story, it got annoying after a while. It would have been nice if the author gave the characters (and readers) a chance to breathe, even if it was just for a second.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I did like the description of the settings in this book, but that was pretty much the only thing that I liked. I never got that “wow, this is an incredible book” moment. Also, while I was reading, I had the nagging suspicion that I had read a book very similar to this one. I still can’t remember what it was, but that bothered me as well.

Overall, this book was okay, but there were definitely parts that bothered me. I give it 2.5/5stars.

  1. Okay I wasn’t the only one that couldn’t stand this book. All the characters were annoying as hell. And frankly I didn’t like that Sarah Cross pretty much based her Regina off of Lana Parrilla Regina from OAUT. It was like be original. And the whole romance or lack there of between Viv and Henley should never have happened. She’s selfish and he has major anger issues. Love your review. Spot on 🙂

    • You’re definitely not the only one. I actually haven’t watched OAUT, so I wouldn’t know about that, but I completely agree with the romance. It just didn’t work. Thank you!

  2. Oh, this is a shame that it fell flat for you because this is actually one I want to read! I love a good fairytale book or retelling, and I think that is what has drawn me in to try this. It was interesting to hear your take on it 🙂
