When I signed up to read Hotwire for the blog tour, I didn’t pay attention to the fact that it was the second book in a series. It was only after I was accepted into the blog tour that I noticed this important piece of information. With that being said, I was a bit hesitant about reading this book, because I tend to like to read books in the order that they were written. Luckily for me and hopefully everyone else that chooses to read this book, Hotwire was able to be read as a standalone.
Hotwire is about Christy and her assignment to track down a group of car thieves. She disguised herself as a master car thief, hoping to catch the eye of her potential suspects. What she didn’t realize was that tracking down the car thieves was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to the illegal activities downtown.
I adored Christy from the moment I met her. She was smart, sarcastic, courageous, and humorous. If she didn’t intrigue you yet, maybe these facts will catch your interest: she is 19 years old, has a photographic memory, oh right, and she’s a spy! Some of the other amazing characters in this book included Jericho, Vicktor, and Carson. All three of them were students at the new high school where Christy attended.
As the book progressed, it became difficult to tell who was telling the truth, and who was lying. Not only that, but Christy also had to deal with all three of the guys vying for her attention. Yes, there was a love triangle-type scenario included in this book, but it was very unique. Unfortunately I can’t say how it was unique, because that would be a spoiler! All that I will say is that I enjoyed the romance aspect.
Overall, I really liked the way that this book was written. I was able to visualize scenes in the book easily and there were a couple of times where it almost felt as though I was inside of the book! As I mentioned earlier, I also loved the characters.
I give this book 4.5/5 stars.
