Best of 2014 Giveaway Hop
Hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer & Bookhounds
December 11th to 18th

Welcome everyone to my first ever Giveaway Hop! Yes, this is the first giveaway hop that I have participated in, and I’m REALLY excited! After all, I get to share three of my favorite books from 2014 with all of you!

The three books that I have chosen as my “Best of 2014” picks are…

Top 3 Books of 2014
Damsel Distressed by Kelsey MackeHot girls get the fairy tales. No one cares about the stepsisters’ story. Those girls don’t get a sweet little ending; they get a lifetime of longing

Imogen Keegen has never had a happily ever after–in fact, she doesn’t think they are possible. Ever since her mother’s death seven years ago, Imogen has pulled herself in and out of therapy, struggled with an “emotionally disturbed” special ed. label, and loathed her perma-plus-sized status.

When Imogen’s new stepsister, the evil and gorgeous Ella Cinder, moves in down the hall, Imogen begins losing grip on the pieces she’s been trying to hold together. The only things that gave her solace–the theatre, cheese fries, and her best friend, Grant–aren’t enough to save her from her pain this time.

While Imogen is enjoying her moment in the spotlight after the high school musical, the journal pages containing her darkest thoughts get put on display. Now, Imogen must resign herself to be crushed under the ever-increasing weight of her pain, or finally accept the starring role in her own life story.

And maybe even find herself a happily ever after.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie StiefvaterIt happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

Rites of Passage by Joy N HensleySam McKenna’s never turned down a dare. And she’s not going to start with the last one her brother gave her before he died.So Sam joins the first-ever class of girls at the prestigious Denmark Military Academy. She’s expecting push-ups and long runs, rope climbing and mud-crawling. As a military brat, she can handle an obstacle course just as well as the boys. She’s even expecting the hostility she gets from some of the cadets who don’t think girls belong there.

What she’s not expecting is her fiery attraction to her drill sergeant. But dating is strictly forbidden and Sam won’t risk her future, or the dare, on something so petty…no matter how much she wants him.

As Sam struggles to prove herself, she discovers that some of the boys don’t just want her gone—they will stop at nothing to drive her out. When their petty threats turn to brutal hazing, bleeding into every corner of her life, she realizes they are not acting alone. A decades-old secret society is alive and active… and determined to force her out. At any cost.

Now time’s running short. Sam must decide who she can trust…and choosing the wrong person could have deadly consequences.

Thank you to Goodreads for the synopsis of all three books.

  1. I think I would choose Rites of Passage. I saw how much you were raving about it, so I’m really intrigued to read it now! I have had so many favorites this year. The two that stick out in my mind are Fangirl, which was the first book I read in January, and then also Laurie Halse Anderson’s The Impossible Knife of Memory. SO GOOD. Thanks for the giveaway. 🙂

  2. I’d love to win The Scorpio Races, but now I’m really curious about Damsel Distressed too. My favorite reads this year were Heir of Fire, Ruin and Rising, The Night Circus, The Young Elites, and Trial by Fire.

  3. I am thinking either Rites of Passage or Damsel Distressed. And a favorite for me this year is Unmade by Sarah Rees Brennan! Thanks for the giveaway and Merry Christmas!

  4. I would like to win the book “Rites of Passage” because it sounds like a book I love to read! A little crazy like me.

The best book I read in 2014 was “Out of Bounds” by Dawn Ryder. It was my favorite because it very hot and steamy. It kept my attention not only because of the sex but by the interesting way the relationship circled.

  5. Bonnie

My favorite book this year was The Witch With No Name by Kim Harrison. I would love to win a copy of The Scorpio Races. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  6. Thanks for the giveaway and congratulations on it being your first one! If I win, I would like Rites of Passage. One! I can’t choose so here are two. First, The Jewel by Amy Ewing. Second, City of Heavenly Fire (the feels).

  7. Damsel Distressed by Kelsey Macke sounds like a great read! I didn’t read too much this year but I was fond of Glitter and Glue by kelly Corrigan

  8. Michelle Lee

If I won, I would love to have Damsel Distressed by Kelsey Macke and my favorite book was Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas! Thank you for this amazing chance! 🙂
