One thing about me is that I’m a sucker for mermaid related things, whether they be books, tv shows, you name it. That’s why I was very excited to read this book, seeing as it was a mermaid story, but with a twist.

Instead of the main character being a mermaid, she’s actually a human. You may ask, where does the mermaid aspect come in? Well that’s where it becomes interesting. In this book, the second main character, Damarian, is a merman. Yes, you read that correctly. This book focuses on a merman, not a mermaid.

Of course, being the fangirl that I am, I was extremely excited to meet a mysterious merman. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed. From the very beginning, I loved how Damarian was kind, sweet, and considerate. He had all the qualities that you would want in a friend. I also really appreciated the fact that he was slightly naive in that he didn’t know a lot about the human world. After all, living in the ocean and living on land are two completely different life styles.

The other main character, Cassie, was adorable albeit a bit whiny at times. The author did a great job of making Cassie a very relatable character by making sure that she had some insecurities, instead of being a perfect person. I also enjoyed her sense of humor, especially when talking to her best friend, Leah. For example, here is one of my favorite quotes: “And my life’s a fairytail. Mind you, that’s fairytail spelled with a t-a-i-l!”

Picking a favorite part of this book would be impossible. There’s simply no way that I could do that! I was hooked on this book from the very beginning, and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. Throughout the book, the imagery and descriptions were so realistic that I felt as if I was inside the story. There was romance in this book, which some people might find escalated a bit quickly, however I thought it flowed well in the story.

Overall I loved the book and would highly recommend it.

I give this book 5/5stars.
