Let me start off by saying that I received an ARC of this book from Rachel Harris herself at CBCBR. I had been waiting to read this book for a while and was dying to get my hands on it. As I gushed to her about wanting to read it, she found her last ARC, signed it, and gave it to me! When I left her table, I was extremely excited. After all, I finally had the book in my possession.

I guess that the easiest way to describe this book is the fact that it’s a classic YA love triangle romance. The main character is a girl named Aly who is the classic tomboy. She’s the girl who is friends with all of the guys. Her best guy friend is Brandon, who she’s been friends with since she was very young. Does the book sound familiar yet?

One day, Aly decides to turn into someone new. She doesn’t want to be the tomboy anymore. Instead, she wants to be a girl that guys want for a casual hookup. So…what does she do? She does what any other girl would do in her situation. She decides to transform herself into a ‘new’ Aly. She doesn’t want to be seen as a ‘Commitment’ girl. Instead, she wants to be a ‘Casual,’ a girl who guys like to flirt and hook up with while not expecting anything more.

With that thought in her mind, she decides to ask Brandon to be her fake boyfriend and he accepts.  But then…well I can’t tell you that part. After all, I don’t want to spoil it for you. The only thing that I will say is that I was able to predict what was going to happen from the very beginning of the book. There was only one small part of the book that surprised me, and that was actually a character, not an event. While I don’t mind reading about love triangles, this love triangle was just too cliché.

Another thing that seemed off to me was the dialogue. If the author, hadn’t told me that the characters were in high school, I would have thought that they were in middle school. Being as such, I wasn’t able to connect to the characters well. Everyone seemed very immature and they reminded me of stereotypical valley girls. No offense intended to any California readers out there!

Overall I think that my expectations for this book were just too high. While it was an okay YA romance, I wasn’t able to connect with any of the characters and it was extremely predictable. I never felt like I was part of the story, which is something that I always look for while reading books. I also like reading books with plot twists and/or surprises, which seemed to be lacking from this story. For those of you who don’t care about surprises, you will probably enjoy this book much more than I did.
