Book Review: Dangerous Creatures by: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Please Note: Make sure to read the Beautiful Creatures series before this novel.

In the Beautiful Creatures series, the entire series revolved around Lena and Ethan. But there was one character who didn’t seem to get the spotlight she deserved. Luckily for her (and me), the authors decided to correct this mistake and create a new series that featured this character.

Meet Ridley Duchannes, Lena’s dark Siren cousin. She’s spunky, sarcastic, and the epitome of a bad-ass.

Of course, no true young adult book would be missing a love interest. That’s where Link Lincoln comes in. Yes, that’s actually his name. He’s a funny, slightly obnoxious quarter Incubus.

One thing that I found refreshing about the book was the fact that Ridley and Link are ex boyfriend and girlfriend. This isn’t one of those cutesy love stories that are mostly romance with a bit of mystery and fantasy. Instead, the majority of the book revolves around secrets, betrayals, and magic.

When Link decides to secretly go to New York and try to find a band, Ridley hitches along for the ride. As they are in the car, Link talks about how nervous he is about finding a band. Little does he know that Ridley already has a band for him. All that Link has to do is show up and he’s hired.

You see, there’s a big secret that Ridley has been hiding from Link. Actually, there are two secrets. A little bit ago, Ridley was playing a game of cards. She ended up losing and so now she owes two markers to someone on the dark side, someone she is ashamed of knowing. One marker will be taken care of when Link joins the band. But there is still another marker up for grabs. And that marker could be dangerous, very dangerous.

I loved the suspense in this book. What happens in the end shall stay a surprise, but all that I have to say is…Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, you are cruel! That cliffhanger should be illegal…

On that note, I will give this book a 4/5 star rating.
